MOSCOW, August 19 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Andrei Silnov took Olympic gold with teammate Yaroslav Rybakov picking up the bronze in the men's high jump on Tuesday in Beijing's Bird Nest Stadium.
Silnov gave a flawless display clearing 2.36 meters without a miss to claim the gold medal ahead of Germaine Mason of Great Britain and Rybakov who both cleared 2.34 meters.
But with more misses than the Briton it was Mason who won silver with Rybakov, world championship runner-up in 2007, having to settle for the bronze.
Russia is currently ranked 6th in the overall medal standings with 10 gold, 14 silver and 18 bronze medals, while China tops the standings boasting 42 gold, 14 silver and 18 bronze medals.
