MADRID, August 20 (RIA Novosti) - At least seven people were killed and 20 injured when a plane crashed on Wednesday during takeoff at Madrid Barajas International Airport, Spain's national television reported.
The Spanair airlines passenger aircraft en route to the Canary Islands with 175 people on board skidded off the runway at 12:30 GMT.
The airport is currently open for landings, but temporarily closed for takeoffs.
The TVE-1 television channel has reported a large cloud of smoke rising into the air at the scene of the accident.
