MOSCOW, August 23 (RIA Novosti) - Russia won the silver in the women's 4x400-meter relay at the Beijing Olympics on Saturday and followed that up with the bronze in the men's event.
The women were pipped at the line by the U.S. team having lead after three legs. Jamaica's women finished with the bronze.
Yulia Gushchina, Lyudmila Litvinova and Tatyana Firova made sure Anastasia Kapachinskaya had a healthy lead when she started the final leg, but Sanya Richards reeled her in and passed her over the final few meters to win by three-tenths of a second.
Richards won bronze in the individual 400m final, ahead of Gushchina, Kapachinskaya and Firova in fourth, fifth and sixth places, respectively.
The United States also won the men's 4x400, setting an Olympic record of 2:55.39 to finish almost three seconds ahead of the Bahamas.
Russia's men set a new national record to clinch the bronze.
