DAMASCUS, September 2 (RIA Novosti) - Palestinian Islamic group Hamas has denied media reports saying that its political leader, Khaled Mashaal, had moved from Syria to Sudan.
"These reports are not borne out by the facts," a Hamas spokesman told RIA Novosti.
The Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Rai earlier claimed that ahead of a four-party summit involving Turkey, Syria, France and Qatar to be held in Damascus on Thursday, Syria has started making concessions to Israel, which has been pressuring Syria to stop supporting Palestinian resistance groups, primarily Hamas.
The paper said the exiled Hamas leader had moved to Sudan as a result, and that indirect negotiations between Syria and Israel may have played a part in the decision.
The Syria summit will discuss the situation in Lebanon, the Turkey-mediated Syrian-Israeli talks, Palestinian-Israeli talks, and other regional issues.
