MOSCOW, September 6 (RIA Novosti) - Eight people were killed when two cars collided head-on in the Altai Territory in the southeast of west Siberia, a law enforcement source said Saturday.
The source said a Zhiguli car entered the oncoming lane and collided with a Toyota.
"As a result of the head-on collision, one of the cars caught fire. Both drivers and six passengers died in the car accident. Another passenger was injured and hospitalized," the source said.
Russian Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev said recently that about 12,000 people died in car accidents in the first half of 2008 in Russia, 10% fewer compared to last year's figures.
