TEHRAN, September 10 (RIA Novosti) - Three people were killed and 26 injured in a powerful quake that shook southern Iran on Wednesday, the Fars News Agency said.
A total of four shocks, the most powerful measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale, hit the southern province of Hormozgan at approximately 11.00 GMT about 53 km (33 miles) southwest of Bandar Abbas, a provincial capital and the site of a major oil refinery.
"The Qeshm Island was the hardest hit," the agency quoted a health official as saying. "We have information about three dead and 26 injured at the moment."
Several houses and power lines have been damaged. Residents are staying outdoors fearing that more shocks could follow.
