MOSCOW, September 11 (RIA Novosti) - The United States is ready to restart missile-defense talks with Russia later this month, the U.S. ambassador to Russia said on Thursday.
"We are ready to resume such talks later this month," John Beyrle told Ekho Moskvy radio, speaking in Russian.
He said the U.S. and Russia would hold consultations on measures to make the missile-defense system more transparent and ease Russian concerns.
"We understand that it is a matter of trust," the ambassador said.
Russia opposes the U.S. plans for a missile shield in Central Europe as a threat to its national security. Moscow has warned it would be forced to target its missiles at Poland if the former Soviet-bloc state hosts the interceptor missiles.
