MOSCOW, September 11 (RIA Novosti) - A man self-immolated in public on Thursday morning in Shanghai, China's most populous city, national media reported.
Xinhua said the man, who is yet to be identified, is thought to have used some kind of fuel to set himself on fire. The blaze took around five minutes to put out.
The incident took place in Shanghai's Bund area, a popular tourist spot.
A number of people have publically self-immolated in recent history as protests against, among many other things, the Vietnam War, the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia, and the War in Iraq.
