MOSCOW, September 14 (RIA Novosti) - Police have seized 23 kilograms (51 pounds) of heroin from a Tajik national in south St. Petersburg, a local police source said on Sunday.
The man was arrested on Saturday during a house search operation. The drugs were found in his Lada car, the source told RIA Novosti.
Tajikistan, a post Soviet country in Central Asia, is a major gateway to Russia and other nearby countries for drugs from neighboring Afghanistan, the world's leader in heroin production.
