The Russian Prosecutor General's Office will on Wednesday start checking the compliance of Russian flagship air carrier Aeroflot with flight safety regulations, the airline said Tuesday.
MOSCOW, September 16 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Prosecutor General's Office will on Wednesday start checking the compliance of Russian flagship air carrier Aeroflot with flight safety regulations, the airline said Tuesday.

"We have received notification from the Prosecutor General's Office about the check. The check will be carried out tomorrow. For our part, we are ready to render full assistance to the department's officials," an Aeroflot spokesman said.

A Boeing 737, owned by Aeroflot subsidiary Aeroflot Nord, crashed on a Siberian railroad track linking Yekaterinburg and Perm during its final approach to Perm airport on Sunday, killing all 88 people on board.

Technical failure is seen as the most likely cause of the crash.

The flight data recorders were sent to Moscow on Monday for analysis, which is expected to take three to four weeks.

Aeroflot announced earlier it had severed ties with its subsidiary that owned the plane.

"A decision has been taken to completely sever cooperation with our subsidiary Aeroflot-Nord. All future flights will be carried out by our companies separately," Aeroflot director Valery Okulov told reporters at Sheremetevo Airport in Moscow.

Okulov said the subsidiary would no longer be allowed to use the Aeroflot brand for its operations and both companies will fly under separate call signs and flags.
