MOSCOW, September 30 (RIA Novosti) - Authorities in southern China have evacuated 678,000 residents following floods that have killed 17 people, the Xinhua news agency reported Tuesday.
Heavy rains brought by Typhoon Jangmi have left another six people missing in China's southern Guangxi autonomous region. Total losses are estimated at $529 million.
Some 2,800 police officers, army personnel and doctors are involved in the rescue operation in the worst-hit areas.
Jangmi, which means "rose" in Korean, is expected to bring more winds and heavy rains in the region.
