MOSCOW, October 9 (RIA Novosti) - WBC heavyweight world champion Samuel Peter, dubbed the Nigerian Nightmare, called Ukraine's Vitali Klitschko a "phony" ahead of their title bout on October 11 in Berlin, Germany.

With only two days remaining before the long-awaited bout, both fighters talked to journalists during a pre-fight press conference this week with the Nigerian saying that he was the only true champion and promising to finally end Klitschko's boxing career.

"He is a phony who is messing with my career and my life. On Saturday, he will be out of everyone's life for good," the FightNews.com website cited Peter as saying.

As reigning WBC heavyweight champion in November 2005, Klitschko announced he was hanging up his gloves following a knee injury, but announced his comeback this summer to square off with Peter.

The 37-year-old Ukrainian was less emotional in his comments about his Nigerian opponent saying that "I have already fought for a title twice and both times I won. This is the third time, and I will be the winner again."

He also said that he had trained hard and was fit for the bout, adding that, "On October 11, we will know who will be the true WBC heavyweight champion. I'm in great condition and have had a perfect preparation phase."

The 27-year-old Nigerian (30-1, 23 KOs) also accused Klitschko of trying to steal the champion's belt from him at a press conference as they posed for photographs together holding the WBC belt, when all of a sudden Peter snatched the belt from Klitschko and ran away with it.

"Vitali Klitschko is trying to take my title belt from me. He tried to take it out of my hands at the press conference, but I snatched it from him," Peter said.

Klitschko, who lives and trains in Germany, hasn't fought in almost four years, but as WBC "champion emeritus" he had the right to challenge Peter whenever he wants.

He said that besides getting his title back his other top motivation is to hold one of the heavyweight titles along with his younger brother, Wladimir, who is currently the reigning IBF and WBO heavyweight champion.

Klitschko, who is 6'8" tall and weighs 245 lbs (203 cm, 111 kg), fought 37 bouts, with 35 victories (34 KOs). Before quitting in 2005 he was the reigning WBC/IBO champion, had taken the European title on four occasions and was the WBO world champion from June 1999 to June 2000.
