MOSCOW, October 18 (RIA Novosti) - A security officer was killed in a special operation to detain a gunman suspected of aiding militants in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia, a police source said.
The incident occurred on Friday, when a group of Federal Security Service Directorate officers and police carried out an operation in the village of Troitskaya.
The suspect "put up armed resistance, as a result of which a security officer was killed. The militant accomplice was then disarmed," the source said.
A Kalashnikov rifle and 12 rounds were seized at the scene. A criminal case has been launched.
Militant attacks continue to be frequent in Ingushetia, which borders on Chechnya.
