The speaker of the Iranian parliament, Ali Larijani, has no plans to run in the country's 2009 presidential elections, he said in an interview on Tuesday.

TEHRAN, October 21 (RIA Novosti) - The speaker of the Iranian parliament, Ali Larijani, has no plans to run in the country's 2009 presidential elections, he said in an interview on Tuesday.

"I will not run in Iran's upcoming presidential elections, it's no secret," he said in an interview with the Fars news agency.

Larijani is also the Islamic Republic's former chief nuclear negotiator

Iran will hold presidential elections on June 12, 2009.

The incumbent president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, elected in the summer of 2005, has yet to confirm his participation in the elections.

Possible candidates are Tehran mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, ex-president Mohammad Khatami, and the leader of the reformist National Confidence Party, Mehdi Karroubi.
