ST. PETERSBURG, November 21 (RIA Novosti) - Officers from Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) seized over 60 kilograms (132 lbs) of cocaine during a search of two vessels at St. Petersburg's port, an FSB spokesman said on Friday.
During an operation on Thursday, officers discovered a cache containing 40 packets of cocaine weighing 42 kilos aboard the Baltic Stream ship that had traveled from South Africa under a Maltese flag.
On Friday officers seized a further 20 kilograms of cocaine aboard the Baltic Meridian vessel that recently arrived from Estonia under a Saint Vincent and Grenadines flag, the spokesman said.
The drugs have an approximate street value of $6 million. An investigation is underway.
