"These mines have recently been operating in conditions of growing operational outlays, and considerable growth in production costs against a backdrop of a sharp fall in nickel prices, which has led us to suspend their operations," Norilsk Nickel said in a press release.
The mines had produced about 10,000 tons of nickel over the past 12 months. The decision will not influence the activities of Norilsk Nickel's Black Swan and Lake Johnston deposits.
Earlier the company reported the shutdown of the Cawse enterprise in Australia.
Norilsk Nickel is Russia's largest diversified mining and metals company, the world's largest producer of nickel and palladium, and one of the world's largest producers of platinum, rhodium, copper and cobalt.
It also produces gold, silver, tellurium, selenium, iridium and ruthenium.
