MOSCOW, November 25 (RIA Novosti) - RIA Novosti hosted discussions on Tuesday between European diplomats and politicians on the international role of the media, organized by the European Commission.
The discussions were part of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue (EYID).
The ambassadors of France, Spain, Turkey and Israel took part in the debate.
The event was a follow-up to the European Union's debates on "Talking Our Way out of Trouble: How Media Debate Can Combat Intolerance," held in Brussels on November 5.
During Tuesday's discussions, Guilherme d'Oliveira Martins, a Portuguese politician and academic, highlighted the importance of the media, in particular web-based news, in improving education and intercultural ties.
