THE HAGUE, December 2 (RIA Novosti) - Authorities have seized a total of 60 cats from the home of a resident of Tilburg in the southern Netherlands, national media reported on Tuesday.
The cats were removed after neighbors complained of the strong smell coming from the house. An animal protection inspector who visited the house said the cats were living in "intolerable" squalor.
The cats will be sent to animal shelters across the country. All have been were implanted with electronic chips and vaccinated. The man was allowed to keep five cats, on the condition that they were neutered.
Relocation and veterinary treatment for the cats cost the local authorities 30,000 euros ($37,000).
