The latest kidnapping of a Russian national is the second such case in Indonesia this month, Andrei Osokin said, adding that the man, whose name has not been released, was taken captive on arrival in the country on December 12.
The incident follows the December 10 release by Jakarta police of another Russian, Igor Khatuntsev, who was also held captive in similar circumstances.
"As a result of a timely operation that was conducted in close cooperation with the Russian Embassy in Indonesia, a Russian man, held against his will for five days by an international group, has been released," Osokin said, adding that the Russian was in good health.
"He needs rest after such a shock, and someone from the Russian Embassy is constantly by his side," the official said. "After medical treatment and a short rest, he will return to Russia," he said. Osokin added that the Russian ambassador to Indonesia, Alexander Ivanov, was monitoring the investigation into the abduction.
The Russian diplomat said that two of the detainees are Indonesians while the other two are Russian-speaking foreigners.
Sinagapore's Strait Times reported, however, that three people had been arrested - one Indonesian, a Russian and another person. The paper cited a senior Indonesian detective, Mohammed Iriawan, as saying "There is still one more kidnapper, an Indonesian, who we haven't caught yet."
Iriawan also told the Strait Times the victim "was escorted to a car on arrival at Soekarno-Hatta (airport). There were two masked men in the car. He was beaten and brought to Serpong (outside Jakarta)."
