MOSCOW, December 19 (RIA Novosti) - Drug police have seized a total of 130 kg (287 lbs) of heroin in Moscow and the Moscow Region, the head of the Federal Drug Control Service said on Friday.

Police also detained two suspected drug dealers in connection with the seizures.

"One of the detainees is a Tajik national, the other is Russian," Viktor Ivanov said.

The official added that the majority of heroin comes to Russia from Afghanistan, which produces up to 93% of the world's heroin. In Russia, heroin produced in Afghanistan kills almost 30,000 people annually.

"Massive and steadily growing drug traffic to Russia from Afghanistan has a serious impact on the demographic situation and is a blow to the nation's gene pool," Ivanov said. "Without any exaggeration, we can say our future and the future of our children now depends on Afghanistan."
