BAKU, December 30 (RIA Novosti) - Law enforcement officers in Azerbaijan have seized around 231 kilograms (510 lbs) of hashish believed to have been produced in Iran, a spokesman for the Ministry of National Security said on Tuesday.
Seven suspects, including Azerbaijani nationals and one Iranian, were arrested during the operation. The drugs were transported across the Caspian Sea by boat before being hidden in Azerbaijan's Neftechalinsky district by a local resident.
Security officers also found 180 kilograms of hashish on December 25 hidden in the vehicles of suspected drug dealers. Another 50 kilograms were later found during a search of the home of one of the suspect's relatives.
A criminal case has been opened, and an investigation is underway.
