DUSHANBE, January 9 (RIA Novosti) - A woman in the capital of the impoverished Central Asian republic of Tajikistan has been detained for trying to sell her newborn baby for $200, a local police spokesman said.
"Farzona Khodzhayeva, a resident of the capital, was detained straight in maternity hospital No.1," the spokesman said.
Criminal proceedings have been launched and an investigation is underway.
At least 10 similar cases occurred in Tajikistan in 2008, with eight of them reportedly taking place in Dushanbe.
