MOSCOW, January 19 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Central Bank has registered a subsidiary of Goldman Sachs, one of the world's biggest investment banks, the Bank of Russia said on its website on Monday.
Goldman Sachs Bank, with a charter capital of 1.45 billion rubles ($45 million), is licensed to carry out banking operations with rubles and foreign currency, without the right to take private individuals' funds on deposit, the Central Bank said.
Mikhail Sukhov, director of the Central Bank's department for credit institutions licensing and financial rehabilitation, said that foreign investors continued to display an interest in the Russian banking sector, despite the ongoing global financial crisis.
Earlier, the Dutch Rabobank obtained a license from the Central Bank to carry out banking operations in Russia.
