TASHKENT, January 20 (RIA Novosti) - Police have seized a total of 22 kg (48 lbs) of heroin in southeastern Uzbekistan, a spokesman for the republic's Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.
The drugs, belonging to a Tajik national, were seized from two residents of the Surkhandarya Region.
"The drugs were smuggled to the territory of Uzbekistan through back roads from neighboring Tajikistan," the source said.
A criminal case was launched, an investigation is underway.
