DONETSK, January 31 (RIA Novosti) - About 500 activists of the Ukrainian Communist Party held a rally on Saturday in the eastern city of Donetsk demanding President Viktor Yushchenko's resignation.

The motto was "Down with Yushchenko and oligarchs! A dignified life for workers!"

The protesters, mostly pensioners, demanded that Yushchenko be brought to criminal account, and an end to job losses and delays in wage payments.

The financial crisis took hold in Ukraine in October 2008. Many banks then said they were in a difficult situation, and depositors started withdrawing funds. The fall in the national currency led to many bank clients becoming unable to pay interest on dollar loans.
