MOSCOW, February 6 (RIA Novosti) - British journalist Tim Wall has been appointed the new editor-in-chief of The Moscow News, Russia’s oldest English-language newspaper.

Wall, who has been business editor at The Moscow Times, has worked as a journalist in the Russian capital for five years. His appointment is part of the newspaper’s plans to expand its business, cultural and entertainment news.

“I look forward to making The Moscow News an original and lively source of news and information about Russia, and providing both the foreign and Russian readership with a range of independent and objective views about the country,” Wall said.

The first issue of Wall’s editorship hit newsstands on Friday with expanded coverage of business, finance and culture news, in-depth commentary and analysis, as well as the Sex in the City section showcasing the exclusive “sExpat” column by celebrity author Deidre Dare.

RIA Novosti Editor-in-Chief Svetlana Mironyuk said: “We would like The Moscow News to focus more on the economy and business, since our audience has never been more interested in the economic situation in the country. We will help to make the newspaper a multimedia organization, which will considerably increase its potential and readership.”

The Moscow News, which has been published since 1930 and is now part of RIA Novosti, has 79,500 readers according to a national TNS Gallup Media survey.
