GROZNY, February 22 (RIA Novosti) - Two police officers were killed and one wounded in an attack by an unidentified assailant in the Republic of Chechnya in Russia's volatile North Caucasus region, a local police source said on Sunday.
The attack occurred on Saturday afternoon in a toy store in the town of Urus-Martan, southwest of Chechnya's capital, when the assailant opened fire with a pistol, firing six shots at the police, the source said.
Police are searching for the attacker, the source said.
Chechnya saw two brutal separatist wars in the 1990s and early 2000s. Militant attacks remain fairly common in the troubled republic.
