MOSCOW, February 27 (RIA Novosti) - Police detained on Friday a hit-and-run driver suspected of stealing a car and crashing into 16 people in southwestern Moscow, a police source said.
"The detainee had already been identified by the owner of the stolen car," the source said.
The 45-year-old Ukrainian national is suspected of attacking the owner of a Chevrolet Lanos and taking his car. He supposedly hit several people at a pedestrian crossing in southwest Moscow before crashing into a bus stop as he tried to make his escape.
Five people were hospitalized, while others are receiving medical treatment at the scene. The majority of those injured were students at the nearby Moscow State University, one of those hospitalized was a 56-year-old American woman.
