The Marina, a Norwegian fishing boat, and its 68-year-old owner went missing off northwest Norway, near the island of Anda on the Vesteralen Archipelago on Monday afternoon.
Norwegian police has radar data confirming that the Russian and Norway vessels were "very close to each other" before the Marina disappeared from radar screens, Norway's leading news agency NTB said.
"We established contact with the freighter early on Tuesday and requested it put into the port of Bodo. The circumstances are that the vessel was in the vicinity of a missing Norwegian fisherman," police spokesman Magne Hugo Nilsen told RIA Novosti in a phone conversation.
The crew of the Russian vessel, en route to the Netherlands, was "surprised but cooperative," the spokesman said.
The vessel will remain in Bodo until divers have examined the hull of the vessel to check for marks left by any possible collision.
