TYUMEN, March 25 (RIA Novosti) - About 16.5 kg (36 lbs) of heroin have been seized in the Western Siberian city of Tyumen, a spokesman for the local drug control department said on Wednesday.
"Early on Monday in a special operation our officers seized about 16.5 kg of heroin," he said, adding that the seizure was a regional record.
The high-quality drugs, packed in 13 plastic bottles, were found during a search of a car. Their estimated street value is more than 10 million rubles ($300,000),
Several citizens of various post-Soviet republics were detained during the operation, the spokesman said.
