NEW YORK, April 3 (RIA Novosti) - Police have surrounded an immigration centre in Binghamton, where an armed gunman is reported to have killed at least four people before taking some 40 people hostage, local radio said.
Local media said some 20 people had managed to get out of the building.
Police have officially confirmed four deaths, while media reports said 13 people had been killed.
Local radio said the gunman, believed to be of Asian descent, had blocked all exits to the building in Binghamton, some 140 miles from New York.
