ASHGABAT, April 9 (RIA Novosti) - The rupture of a gas pipeline in Turkmenistan, which caused a suspension in Turkmen gas supplies to Russia, will be repaired within two to three days, a source in the Central Asian government said on Thursday.
The gas pipeline was ruptured early on Thursday between the compressor stations of Ilyaly and Deryalyk close to the Turkmen-Uzbek border.
The Turkmen eastern gas pipeline from the Dovletabad gas field to the Deryalyk station on the Turkmen-Uzbek border annually exports 42-45 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Russia.
Russian energy giant Gazprom earlier said that the pipeline accident would not affect gas supplies to its consumers.
Russia is one of the largest importers of Turkmen gas. In 2008, Turkmenistan exported over 47 billion cubic meters of natural gas out of the total of 70.5 billion cubic meters produced in the Central Asian republic.
