CHELYABINSK, April 10 (RIA Novosti) - Officers from Russia's Federal Security Service seized 10 kg (22 lbs) of heroin in Chelyabinsk, in the Urals, from a double amputee and Afghan war veteran.

The operation was conducted on April 4, but the FSB only published information about the arrest and operation details on Friday.

The FSB said in a statement that the suspect had hidden the drugs, which were intended for transportation to Moscow, under the front seats of his Moskvich car, which had been specially adapted for his disability.

All the drugs could not fit under the seats and "about a kilogram of the heroin the suspect hid in one of his artificial limbs."

Russia's Urals Region is a major transit point for heroin trafficking from Afghanistan. Most of the drugs are sold in Moscow and St. Petersburg and other large Russian cities or shipped onto Europe.
