ANKARA, April 11 (RIA Novosti) - Turkish health officials said on Saturday 11 people, including three Germans tourists, have died since March 21 from drinking home-distilled alcohol.
The latest victim to die after drinking "fake" raki, an aniseed flavored liquor considered the national drink, was a resident from Bursa in west Turkey, a health ministry statement said.
Turkish authorities plan to introduce tighter controls and harsher sentencing to try and stop the spread of illegal alcohol.
In 2005, twenty-two people died after drinking bootleg liquor in Turkey.
