MOSCOW, April 22 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian-British oil joint venture TNK-BP plans to spend more than 3 billion rubles ($88 million) on environmental protection in Russia this year, the company's vice president for health, safety and environment said.
"We believe we invest a substantial amount in environment protection, but we as a corporate citizen are not indifferent to how nature is protected in Russia," Yevgeny Bulgakov said. He said the spending on environmental projects will be higher than last year.
TNK-BP is carrying out prospecting and exploration of oil deposits in West Siberia, the Volga-Urals region, East Siberia and on Sakhalin Island. The company's oil output in 2007 reached more than 78 million tons.
