"Drug control departments have made 11 large hauls of drugs from April 27 to May 3," the press department said in a statement. "Seven of these seizures included heroin of Afghani origin with a total weight of 39.5 kg, or the equivalent of 2.7 million single doses."
The major heroin seizures were made in southwest Siberia's Altai Territory, West Siberia's Khanty-Mansiisk Autonomous Area and the Kurgan Region in the southern Urals.
Over 95% of heroin sold in Russia is produced in Afghanistan, the world's largest producer.
A total of 25.6 kg (56.4 lbs) of marijuana was seized in Russia in the reported period.
On Tuesday drug police made a major drug haul in the Urals. Over 5.1 kg (11.2 lbs) of heroin and over 7.6 kg (16.8 lbs) of hashish was discovered in a GAZelle minibus in the city of Perm.
