TALLINN, May 8 (RIA Novosti) - Estonia is in favor of Russia's initiative to hold the World Grain Forum on June 6-7, the Estonian agriculture minister said on Friday.
The forum is due to coincide with the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and will exame future global production in the light of food security issues.
"Estonia overwhelmingly welcomes Russia's initiative to discuss global challenges in grain production as one of the most important issues at the level of the United Nations and G20," Helir-Valdor Seeder said.
"Estonia expects the forum to be held at the highest political level to send a clear signal that agriculture, including grain production, is one of the most important methods of fighting poverty," the minister said.
He urged all nations to support grain production on the basis of technology that will increase the effectiveness of agriculture.
The event will include four conferences and two business forums. Representatives from 80 countries, including agriculture ministers, heads of international financial organizations, national and international agricultural associations, and analysts, will attend.
