MOSCOW, May 14 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian foreign minister has made a protest to his Finnish counterpart after a Russian boy was illegally taken out of Russia by his Finnish father, the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
Sergei Lavrov held a phone conversation on Thursday with Alexander Stubb to discuss the issue.
"It was announced that taking the child out without his mother's consent was a major violation of Russian law and criminally liable," the statement read.
The Finnish minister said the country's consulate general in St. Petersburg was involved in taking the child, who has Russian citizenship, out of the country. The man, whose Russian visa had expired, and his child had been in the consulate prior to departure.
"All of this is a blatant violation of the Vienna convention on diplomatic relations, which states that diplomats should strictly observe the laws of the host country," the ministry said. "Such actions could have consequences."
