NAZRAN, May 23 (RIA Novosti) - A militant was killed and a policeman was wounded in a shootout between a group of militants and law enforcers on the border between Chechnya and Ingushetia, in Russia's North Caucasus, a police spokesman said on Saturday.
The spokesman said that during a joint special operation of Chechen and Ingush policemen a group of about five militants was detected moving along the border. The both sides exchanged fire and one of the militants was killed and a policeman received a light wound.
He added that the identity of the killed militant is currently being established, while police forces are pursuing the rest of the militant group.
Militant attacks and clashes remain common in Russia's North Caucasus although the Kremlin campaign to fight separatists and terrorists in Chechnya has officially ended. Violence often spills over into nearby republics, in particular Ingushetia and Daghestan.
