MOSCOW, May 31 (RIA Novosti) - An armed robber has managed to get away with $4 million after attacking a car in south Moscow, a police source said on Sunday.
The robbery occurred at about 3:30 p.m. Moscow time (11:30 a.m. GMT) on Sunday after an unidentified person attacked a car carrying the cash. The assailant forced the driver out of the car by threatening him with a pistol and drove away.
Police have launched an emergency plan to apprehend the robber. The car was not a cash collection vehicle, the police source said.
Meanwhile, the Moscow interior department has not yet confirmed the robbery, saying this information was being verified.
The number of attacks on cash collectors and armed robberies has increased significantly in Moscow and other Russian cities lately as Russia has been hard hit by the global economic crisis.
