MOSCOW, June 3 (RIA Novosti) - A UN-sponsored conference on the global financial crisis will be held on June 24-26, Russia's envoy to the United Nations said on Wednesday.
Vitaly Churkin said during a Moscow-New York video link-up that the conference had been originally planned for June 1-3 but was postponed due to differences in approaches to the preparation of the final document.
"The first approach is more evolutionary and is related with the G8 efforts. It is shared by most of UN members. The second approach is radical, stipulating the creation of a whole number of bodies that would take on the forceful and radical restructuring of the global financial architecture," Churkin said.
The Russian diplomat said that UN member countries were now involved in the intense process of preparing a final document.
"We proceed from the fact that the document will be worked on and this conference will make an important contribution to the efforts being made by the G20 and G8 member countries and within other set ups to contribute to ways out of the global currency and economic crisis," Churkin said.
