BEIJING, June 21 (RIA Novosti) - At least 16 people were killed and 44 wounded in an explosion at a factory in eastern China, national media reported on Sunday.
The blast at a privately owned quartz sand factory in Fengyang county in the Anhui province occurred in the early hours on Sunday, the official news agency Xinhua said.
Most of those killed were factory workers, while the most of the injured were local residents, the agency said.
The cause of the explosion was not immediately clear. The local government said it was still gathering information on the incident.
Industrial accidents are frequent in China, and claim thousands of lives every year.
