NEW DELHI, July 2 (RIA Novosti) - The Delhi High Court repealed on Tuesday a law which outlawed consensual sex between adults of the same gender, Indian media said.
Under the 150-year-old Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, consensual intercourse between adults of the same sex was punishable with a fine and/or a prison term from five to ten years.
India's Law Minister Veerappa Moily declined to comment on the decision. He added that the decision on whether the ruling should be challenged in a higher instance court would be made as soon as the document had been carefully studied.
The decision was made in the wake of gay pride parades held last Sunday in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore.
