Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin effectively work together, U.S. President Barack Obama said Monday.

MOSCOW, July 6 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin effectively work together, U.S. President Barack Obama said Monday.

"My strong impression is that President Medvedev and Prime Minister Putin are working very effectively together and our interest is in working together with the Russian government as a whole in order to achieve the improved bilateral relationship that I think can be accomplished," he said at a joint news conference after talks with Medvedev.

He added that he trusted Medvedev to follow through on the agreements they announced on Monday.

The Russian president, in his turn, praised the first round of talks with Obama as "useful and extremely frank."

"The first visit of the U.S. President Barack Obama to Russia was very intense: during the first day we were able to touch upon almost all issues on our agenda, and it was huge," Medvedev said.

Obama and Medvedev were scheduled to have an informal dinner at the Russian presidential residence in Barvikha later on Monday, where they will be joined by first ladies Svetlana Medvedev and Michelle Obama.

On Tuesday, Obama will meet Putin over breakfast and later address business leaders with Medvedev.
