MOSCOW, July 19 (RIA Novosti) - At least 44 people were injured after two light rail trains collided in San Francisco on Saturday, CNN reported on Sunday, citing local police.
"Apparently the conductor for one of the trains miscalculated a turn. It's still under investigation right now," CNN quoted a police officer as saying. The police officer would not disclose his name.
Eye-witnesses said that one train crashed into the rear of the other train at a boarding platform after emerging from a tunnel. Both trains were full of passengers, the TV channel said.
"There are reportedly multiple injuries as a result of the collision, but none of the injuries have yet been described as life-threatening," Judson True, a spokesman for the San Francisco Municipal Railway, said.
The local authorities said the collision was one of the largest casualty incidents in San Francisco in recent years.
