MOSCOW, July 31 (RIA Novosti) - A Norwegian-registered cargo ship with six Russian and Ukrainian crew sank in a heavy storm in the North Sea off Sweden on Friday.

A helicopter and five vessels arrived at the possible wreck site several kilometers off Sweden's coast to find life vests, rafts and debris from the ship, but no crewmembers. Rescuers are continuing to search for survivors.

The Langeland sent an emergency signal in the morning but had since lost contact. The radio operator said the ship was listing and about to sink, Russia's Morskoi Bulleten (Maritime Bulletin) reported.

The website said four Russians and two Ukrainians were on board the ship, which was built in 1972 and owned by Myklebusthaug Management AS.

The website said the cargo - 2,500 metric tons of stone en route to Norway - might have been fixed improperly causing a major tilt in high waves and a gale. It said the average sea depth at the possible wreck site was 250 meters (820 feet).

Russia's Vesti channel said the Norwegian ship owner had contacted the crewmen's families.
