MOSCOW, August 6 (RIA Novosti) - Dynamo manager Andrei Kobelev put his young side's 2-0 defeat at home to Celtic on Wednesday evening in a Champions League qualifier down to a lack of experience.
After surprisingly winning the first leg 1-0 in Scotland last week, Dynamo were favorites to make the play-off round.
"We didn't have enough experience. We played OK in defense, but as for the quality of our attack...every second pass went astray," Kobelev told a post-match press conference.
However, while experience may have told, the Muscovites, who left out 18-year-old forward Alexander Kokorin, scorer of the only goal in Glasgow, were punished for their overcautious tactics.
Starting with just Alexander Kerzhakov up front, Dynamo rarely threatened, and Celtic took the lead just before half time, Scott McDonald heading home from a cross to the delight of the 300 or so Scottish fans who had made the trip.
Dynamo's attack was just as toothless in the second half and the game looked to be heading for extra time when substitute Georgios Samaras cut through the Dynamo defense to send his shot into the right hand of Vladimir Gabulov's goal in the 90th minute.
The win was Celtic's first away from home in Europe since 2003, and the first time they had ever overturned a first-leg defeat in continental football.
Dynamo now drop down into the Europa League.
"It'll be tough to get ourselves in the right mood for the Europa League," Kerzhakov confessed after the match. "I won't deny it."
