BUENOS AIRES, August 18 (RIA Novosti) - Police in Ecuador have seized more than 6 tons of cocaine near the border with Colombia, national media said on Tuesday.
The operation, dubbed Victoria, occurred last weekend in San Lorenzo, a town in the northern province of Esmeraldas.
"The sacks with the drugs were stocked in several underground storages," local police chief Freddy Martinez said.
Two Ecuadorian and two Colombian nationals were arrested during the operation, he added.
The drugs, which belonged to 18 drug trafficking rings, including the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, have an estimated street value of some $182 million.
The seizure is one of the largest in the history of Ecuador's anti-drug trafficking operations.
