Afghanistan's electoral authorities are expected to announce on Tuesday vote counts from several provinces following last Thursday's presidential election

KABUL, August 24 (RIA Novosti) - Afghanistan's electoral authorities are expected to announce on Tuesday vote counts from several provinces following last Thursday's presidential election.

Preliminary nationwide results are expected not before September 3. The final results, previously scheduled for September 17, could be further delayed by an investigation into 225 reports of abuses received by the Electoral Complaints Commission.

Around 20% of votes have so far been registered in the central system, an official with the country's Independent Election Commission said.

"Vote counts received from almost 1,350 polling stations via local election commissions have been processed and entered into the computer system in the presence of local and international observers," Zekria Barakzai said.

He added that the number is expected to grow by 80% later in the day. Voting took place at about 6,300 polling stations across the country.

Spokesmen for incumbent President Hamid Karzai and ex-premier Abdullah Abdullah have both said their candidates won an outright majority.

If none of the 30 presidential candidates secures 50% of the vote, a run-off will be held in October.
