MOSCOW, August 31 (RIA Novosti) - At least one person died and 15 were injured when two buses crashed on Monday to the south of Moscow, the emergencies ministry said.
The buses collided on the Kashirskoye highway near the town of Serebryanye Prudy. An emergencies ministry team has been sent to the scene.
"The circumstances surrounding the crash and the total number of injured are being clarified," Yelena Smirnykh said.
Police said a rescue helicopter has been sent.
The accident rate on Russia's roads remains well above the European average, with only 20% of national roads meeting international safety standards.
President Dmitry Medvedev ordered the government earlier this month to take measures to improve road safety, including a regulation to equip all buses with seatbelts by January 1, 2010.
